Kaitlyn + Burke
On September 8th of this year, I had the pleasure of working for Kaitlyn and Burke as they celebrated their marriage. In this post you'll find a slideshow of their wedding day, as well as notes from me and notes from the bride that detail how they fell in love! I'll kick this off with words from the bride:
"Hello all! Welcome to the website of our fantastic photographer, Mandy Kellogg! Here is a little bit about our “love story,” hope you enjoy!
As of September 8, 2012, Burke and I became the Schraders! But our story began nearly 5 years prior to that date. Burke and I became friends during the summer of 2006 while working together at the Family Aquatic Center (our local pool). He just happened to be the manager and I was a lifeguard (gasp!! hehe). We routinely made it a point to talk and get to know one another over MSN messenger. I found myself crushing pretty hard on Burke even though I knew it was pretty improbable given the 5-year age difference. Even so, I managed to work up the courage to tell Burke how I felt over a Facebook message. Burke let me down easy and we agreed to just remain friends. We kept in touch over then next year mostly through Facebook. Then in the summer of 2007, Burke moved back to our hometown to manage the pool, and I again was a lifeguard. We picked up pretty much where we left off, but with a feeling that a relationship was not all that impossible anymore. One night, while talking on MSN, Burke asked me to go on a date with him. We went to Pizza Hut and the movie '1408', which we both agreed later on was a pretty terrible movie, but nevertheless was a great first date. We spent the 4th of July together and on July 5, 2007, Burke told me that I should probably change my relationship status on Facebook, much to the surprise of all of our friends. The following 5 years were full of ups, downs and everything in between, but we wouldn’t change them for the world. On New Year’s Eve of 2011, Burke asked me to be his wife. We are now living together in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and are extremely excited about the adventures that lie ahead!
Thanks again for visiting this website! And know that if you choose anyone to photograph your big day, or any moment you want captured forever, Mandy is your person!"
As soon as I met Kaitlyn and Burke, first at the Bridal Expo, and then for their engagement pictures, we hit it off immediately. I was so excited to work their wedding. The energy between them was amazing and genuine. On their wedding day I had my assistant, Heather, come up from Illinois and we took off to Iowa for the big day! Kaitlyn and Burke had a really large wedding party, and those are always a blast. Their group was very welcoming, making us feel like we'd been friends for a few years already, and their family made us feel like...family. What an amazing group of people to spend a day with. The entire day and night was one huge celebration; nobody stopped smiling, and their happiness was contagious. Kaitlyn and Burke ended up hiring us for an extra two hours, so we were able to capture more of the reception than we do at a lot of weddings. We honestly didn't want to leave, but we had a 1.5 hour drive ahead of us. When it was time to go, we were given several hugs before we were able to make our exit, and they took extra care in making sure we knew just how to get home. Hopefully someday I will be taking maternity and newborn pictures for them, and will get to witness and document their growing happiness. Thank you guys so much for choosing me; it was such an honor!
Please enjoy this slideshow of Kaitlyn and Burke's wedding. The song playing was their 'first dance' song.
